June 01, 2008 ... Operation Summer Madness.

One of the key virtues of Israel's administration in comparison to its ME neighbours is that it can be changed without recourse to the violence and chaos demonstrated by Hamas and Fatah, for example, in their dispute over who should be in charge of Gaza. Ironically if the Israel's ME counterparts were even slightly less disorganised and fractious, Israel's continued existence would be moot. In other words, Israeli politicians enjoy the luxury of a relatively benign chaos, so long as their enemies are distracted by their own greater chaos. God forbid that peace should break out amongst Israel's enemies.

Seemingly oblivious to this threat, the current administration is being held ransom to the demands of the Ultra-Othordox Shas party, a Tzipi Livni who didn't follow through on her very own Clare Short moment, and ex-Prime Minister Ehud Barak who huffs and puffs, but just can't bring himself to stick it to the current incumbent, Ehud Olmert. As per a comment which even Google has failed to yet retrieve, 'Ehud Barak has an IQ of 180, but isn't as smart as he thinks he is' :-) Which leaves the ability of lesser mortals, such as Bibi, in doubt.

And what is the current crisis amount to? It amounts to--if ever proved--that Ehud Olmert has received about as much money--a vast sum according to media commentary--as it would cost to intercept two Qassam rockets bearing down on Sderot or Ashkelon, with the yet to be implemented Iron Dome system. Which begs the question: How can it be remotely justified to tear an Israeli government down for such a trifling amount, and also considering that an alternative government would have a half-life of less than twelve-months.

Given such insane domestic politics allied to utter irresponsibility, it is a most fortuitous happenstance for Israelis that Germany, the UK, France and the US have sworn undying support for the continued existence of Israel.

Or, as Harvard Graduate Rachel Greenwald has so saliently put it: 'Always wear a push-up bra -- after 35, it can’t hurt.'

That kind of advice may prompt some to ask: 'For this she went to Harvard?'
