The most important non-English EU languages are German, French, Spanish and Portuguese. This is because these languages are used internationally, as well as in their home countries.

German speaking: Germany, Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Namibia, Romania, Switzerland.

French speaking: France, Belgium, Benin, Burkina-Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Canada, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Gabon, Guinea, Haiti, Ivory Coast, Luxembourg, Madagascar, Mali, Monaco, Niger, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Senegal, Seychelles, Switzerland, Togo, Vanuatu.

Italian speaking: Italy, Switzerland, San Marino, Vatican City, Malta, Slovenia, Croatia, Libya, Eritrea, France (esp. Corsica).

Spanish speaking: Spain, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Equatorial Guinea.

Polish speaking: Poland, Belarus, Lithuania, Ukraine.

Portuguese speaking: Portugal, Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, East Timor, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Sao Tome and Principe.

Dutch speaking: Netherlands, Belgium (Flanders and Brussels), Suriname, Aruba, Netherlands Antilles, French Flanders (France), Lower Rhine (Germany).

They provide a pleasant way to gain some familiarity with a new language, after which, one can pursue more advanced tuition. Maybe a stepping stone to enrolling for an Open-University language course, the points gained, contributing to a Degree.
